the final phase of the great defrosting
preparing for the beginning of the end of Saturn in pisces
I wanted to write during the full moon but I didn’t have time between a busy weekend and attending a funeral on Monday in full 4th house scorpio style. I stayed up to write last night even though my head feels like a water balloon because my sinuses are feeling overwhelmed by the repeated violation of my dietary restrictions (taurus season has me feeling so indulgent!) and excess pollen in the air. I woke up at dawn to finish writing but then I deleted it all because I had no idea what the fuck I was saying. This might not be much better but let’s go!
I haven’t written in 2 weeks since was in the desert contemplating curse-breaking. I came back from my precious time there to a whole slew of family curses being broken leading up to this full moon. It’s been exhausting yet deeply pleasurable to watch healing ripple forwards, backwards, and all around me. The Great Defrosting at work.
I want to blame my health for my foggy mind but it’s also that Saturn is at the end of pisces and all I can feel when I put my finger on the multidimensional pulse is mush. When Saturn is at the end of a sign it kinda takes over the weather. Saturn at the end of pisces is the most primordial mush, the kind the entire zodiac is reborn out of. The kind of dream entire worlds are born from.
The planets are moving fast. There are only 10 days before Saturn enters aries and resets its journey through the zodiac. If you follow along with astrology in general you’ll hear a lot about this Saturn ingress as the beginning of Saturn in aries and the end of Saturn in pisces.
But this isn’t the end of The Great Defrosting, which is what I’ve been calling Saturn in pisces. It’s really just the beginning of the end.
Since March 2023 we’ve been melting the false limitations, grieving our losses, sublimating fear into clarity, and investigating our relationship to faith. It will enter aries on May 24th. On September 1st, 2025 Saturn will retrograde back into pisces (along with Neptune) until February 2026.
We have one more autumn and most of another winter of melting, dissolving, and learning to surrender into the Big Ocean of BEing that is pisces.
Our pilot episode of Saturn in aries is excruciatingly important, without question. However, I’m glad that Saturn will return to pisces to give us one more opportunity to integrate what The Great Defrosting has been teaching us. Saturn in aries can be very hot, dry, and demanding. It’s important that we are able to soften into our faith and accept our disappointments so that we can be in the discipline of right action, instead of getting stuck in reactionary positions.
The summer will be a super high contrast time— the greater malefic (Saturn) in fall and the greater benefic (Jupiter) in exaltation. To get stuck in a reactionary position in the times coming is to guarantee you will feel crushed, compressed, and exhausted.
When Saturn returns to pisces in September, it will be ruled by an exalted Jupiter in cancer. This will cool things down and bring some watercolors into the contrast. We will have the conditions to really experience the benefits (assuming we practiced the discipline) of learning to allow, to receive, to imagine, and to flow.
That will be the third and final phase of The Great Defrosting.
What we are about to experience with Saturn joining Neptune in aries on May 25th and Jupiter entering cancer on June 9th is a temporary acceleration of whatever is currently in place. Aries is fast and cancer is almost faster because the Moon is the fastest moving planet and water has a speed that fire doesn’t when its answering to Saturn. The speed might knock some things down or over, and that’s okay. If you can move with life instead of against it, you’ll have an easier time.
When Saturn returns to pisces we can return to the dreaming board with our summer intel and really commit to the vision, supported by the life giving waters of Jupiter in cancer.
Reality doesn’t respond to your idealizations but to your ideas— the identification of your energy with your imagination. That’s what you need to know.
What you can do Right Now
An important part of every integration process is celebration and appreciation. Take some time to write down or contemplate what has changed, softened, melted, sublimated, lifted, deepened since March 2023. The more you appreciate now, the more will grow later.
Celebrating your progress as sufficient will be the best preparation you could do for the changes that are to come because celebration boosts your confidence and your understanding that all of it comes through grace. And sometimes learning happens more easily in retrospect. If you don’t recognize and appreciate, life will always feel like you’re going nowhere fast or not at all.
Life doesn’t come from doing, it comes from being and seeing. Evolution happens naturally from there.
This is your quick overview; we’ll get deeper and deeper into each moving piece as time goes on. Feel free to use the comment section to ask questions and share your celebrations and appreciations at the altar of The Great Defrosting. 🩵
the pausing to appreciate & celebrate feels very Sun card to me! appreciate your guidance through the Great Defrosting 🌀
